Depth: 40-70 feet
Some of the dive operators call this site “Cliffhanger” but I like Salt Pond Arch better. This is an excellent mid-depth scuba diving site that is exciting to dive but is not normally the type of adrenaline rush that a name like ‘cliffhanger’ implies. The reef structure is outstanding with a very long undercut ledge where all kinds of creatures love to hang around. Divers love swimming through the large openings between the upper and lower parts of this reef. It is common to see a shark or two along with large schools of fish. The black coral that grows here is sometimes a host for rare fish like the Longnose Hawkfish. Under the ledges we find abundant collections of Orange Cup Coral – one of Hawaii’s few soft corals.
